Wellness Exams

Did you know that most pets only see a vet once a year? That is like you seeing your doctor once every 7 years!

Why Have Annual Wellness Exams?

Our pets age faster than we do and that means that their health can change quite a bit in just six months. Annual wellness exams are recommended for all pets, and biannual exams are recommended for any senior pet over 7 years old. Pets that receive annual check ups are more likely to have disease diagnosed before it becomes life threatening and are more likely to receive the preventative care they require to fight off future illness.

What to Expect:

Your pet should receive the following at each annual visit:

  • A physical that includes checking your pet from nose to tail, listening to their heart and lungs, and palpating their abdomen

  • Any vaccines for which they are currently due

  • For dogs, a heartworm test and stool test to check for parasites

For senior pets, it is recommended to perform annual bloodwork.

Testing and Bloodwork

Bloodwork enables your veterinarian to see your pet in a new light.

What are the Benefits of Annual Bloodwork?

Routine blood work can be beneficial for diagnosing disease before they become life threatening or life altering. For senior patients, annual lab work is crucial for making sure our pets are receiving proper senior care. In addition, having blood work performed while your pet is healthy helps us set a baseline for your pet if they come in sick. Consider having annual blood work done at your pet's next visit.

What Does Blood Work Include?

  • Total blood count, which looks at the breakdown of cells in your pet's blood.

  • A look at kidney, liver, and heart function.

  • Blood glucose levels

  • Cholesterol levels

  • Thyroid levels

  • Introducing SDMA, a test that detects kidney disease at an earlier rate

Our senior bloodwork is processed by IDEXX Laboratories.
